Training

Photo: Police College of FinlandThe police training programmes available in Finland are the Diploma in Police Studies, the Finnish Police Sergeant’s Examination, the Bachelor in Police Command and applicable Master’s Degrees. In addition to these programmes, continuing and supplementary training is also arranged, including Specialist Studies.

The intention is to develop the structure of police training in the future so as to correspond to the structure of qualifications in the Finnish public education system at large. Under this system, every police officer would complete a polytechnic-level qualification.

The Finnish police force’s diploma and advanced training programmes are given at the Police College of Finland in Tampere. The Police College is a training institute under the direction of the Ministry of the Interior. It is responsible for recruitment for police training, for selection of students for diploma and advanced programmes, for organizing diploma and advanced studies, for continuing and supplementary training given at the training institute and for research and development in the police field. The training is given in Finnish and also in Swedish.
